Martina Simeti gallery was founded in 2019 in Milan, initially as a project space in a silversmith workshop. The gallery programming grew out of the desire to explore areas in which the applied and decorative art techniques act as an intermediary for conceptual research, with a focus on art concerning domesticity and everyday objects.

In April 2021, the Gallery moved to Via Benedetto Marcello. Its programming has naturally broadened, and today the Gallery represents both Italian and international artists with multidisciplinary practices in the visual arts, in dialogue with adjacent disciplines. The gallery program alternates solo shows with group exhibitions and curated special projects.

In conversation with Martina Simeti

How did your career in art begin?

In my father’s studio, playing ping pong.

When and how did you open your gallery?

It was in Milan in 2019. After 30 years of living abroad. Not in the world of art.

Tell us about the space you chose for your gallery and the surrounding area.

It was a sex shop. And before that, a furrier. A furry history.

Are you a collector?

Yes, African antiques and contemporary art.

Choose a work that you’d take to a desert island.

Le Déjeuner en fourrure by Méret Oppenheim… an art object, and also furry.
