It’s a photo of a lunch on the terrace of our home in which Beuys is extending his hand to me, as if he were passing me the baton, my mother is touching my arm and Lucio Amelio has his hand on my head. It almost seems like a scene from an investiture, I was destined to promote art.

When and how did you start your gallery?

On October 16th, 1974, my father, Pasquale, and my mother, Lucia, inaugurated the Studio Trisorio with a Dan Flavin exhibition in the historical building on the Riviera di Chiaia where the gallery is still located. After my father’s death in 1992, I became more involved in directing the gallery together with my mother and in 2011, we expanded the exhibit space which allowed us to collaborate with new artists.

Lucia Trisorio. For many years now, local museum institutions have become more attentive to contemporary art and now work in synergy with local galleries. Furthermore, there are many important private collections in the city which, over the years, we have contributed to forming.

Are there any social, environmental, or educational initiatives related to art that you have recently undertaken or would like to dedicate yourself to in the future?

Since 1996, I have been organizing Artecinema, an international festival of contemporary art films held in Naples. For some years now, with Artecinema per il Sociale, I have been able to take art to prisons, to prisoners, who wait with intense emotion to experience a moment of openness and mutual exchange. The meetings with artists and directors dedicated to students are also precious educational opportunities.

Felice Varini, Rosso nero giallo blu per scudo trapezio e disco, 2014, installation view, Studio Trisorio, Naples. Today an artist exists only if he is recognized by the market, if his works are sold at auctions, if he is seen at fairs and, with the same speed with which he achieves success, he is forgotten. There is, therefore, a greater competition that makes the life of artists and gallerists more difficult, but the enthusiasm remains the same.

How did your career in art begin?
