The Enchantment of the Favourite Spots of Telemaco Signorini and Lorenzo Viani"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The desire to trace a line connecting present and past and share with the great artists of another age the emotion of a natural or built landscape and the hope of reviving, through their splendid works, the places that were a source of inspiration, life and even comfort for them are what spurred us to propose a visual analogy between the three masterpieces by Telemaco Signorini and Lorenzo Viani and everyday life in those locations today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The itinerary starts near the sheer cliffs of the picturesque village of Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre, where Signorini sojourned time and time again over the course of more than thirty years, beginning in 1860. He always received a warm welcome from the locals, who became the subjects of many of his portraits and the main characters in the accounts recorded in his illustrated diary Riomaggiore (1909). Our next stop is on the slopes of Mounte Amiata, in the town of Piancastagnaio, the tortuous and picturesque main road of which, repeatedly immortalised in Signorini\u2019s paintings, still seems to ring with the chatter of vendors and sound of the hooves of mules laden with goods.
