Gian Marco Casini opened the Gian Marco Casini Gallery in 2017 in Livorno, a city whose rich history strongly influences the gallery’s approach to art and curating. Livorno was founded in the 16th century on the very concept of coexistence between different peoples and creeds, guaranteeing minorities the opportunity to live, practise their faith and trade freely. Jewish, Greek, Armenian and Dutch settlers moved to this city, designed for them by the Medici family.

In line with Livorno’s genius loci, the gallery focuses its exhibition programme on specific themes relating to the city’s history. Citizenship, architecture, freedom of the press, anarchism, and linguistics are just some of the topics that have featured in its agenda.
