At the Heart of Car History with Simon Starling

Located in the Mirafiori industrial district, the former Officina 81 factory has been completely transformed into a space devoted to telling the story of more than 120 years of history-making creativity, research and excellence in Turin: the car industry.

In June 2019, during an exploratory trip with my friend the artist Simon Starling, which then developed into an extraordinary exhibition project the following October at the gallery, I had the opportunity to visit the spaces of Heritage HUB thanks to the extreme generosity of the designer Roberto Giolito and Gianfranco Gentile, the heart and soul of the project along with so many other collaborators. It was a magnificent opportunity to combine my work with my unbridled passion for cars.

The 15,000 square metres of the structure were painstakingly restored to maintain the architectural structure of the original spaces, which had been used for manufacturing transmission parts. Inside, 250 cars, including prototypes and iconic models, are displayed with extreme precision in an exhibition that expresses the uniqueness that has distinguished the Fiat brands over its history. The models displayed include the original Fiat 125S, Gianni Agnelli’s favourite and at the heart, along with Tiepolo’s Moses Saved from the Waters, of Simon Starling’s dual exhibition project, his sixth conceived and inspired by Turin together with the gallery.
