Borghetto sul Mincio is a little ward in the municipality of Valeggio sul Mincio, in the province of Verona, located south-east of Lake Garda and included on the list of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” This small town, with medieval fortifications, dates back to the Lombard period, and is famous for its mills and buildings built in symbiosis with the Mincio River.
As though frozen in time, Borghetto sul Mincio has managed to preserve, unaltered, its spectacular medieval appearance of fortified river station: this little village always makes me feel as though I’m travelling back in time, to a romantic, almost melancholy atmosphere, where the desire to keep the past alive collides with present day life. The setting on the river in this widely varied natural landscape lends itself well to the area’s wine and food experience.
